“Pro-choicers” are Jekyll & Hyde about body autonomy

On December 1, 2021, the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

The Mississippi law at the center of the case bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy in that state. Many are looking for this case to potentially outlaw abortion entirely.

The justices have several choices, but if Roe were overturned, it would return this issue to the jurisdiction of the states where it had been previously.

Predictably, that hasn’t stopped the Left from rallying the troops and threatening to pack the court if they don’t get their way, which is no restrictions whatsoever on abortions, anywhere in the country.

Under the guise of “liberty,” the Left forces everyone, even entire states to dance to their tune. What about the prerogative of the people in each state to decide these questions for themselves? This is an anathema to today’s Democrat party which is controlled by the Left.

Without a hint of irony, the U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar and others who spoke in support of Jackson Women’s Health argued passionately for liberty and “body autonomy” for women.  Never of course, for the body autonomy of the baby, regardless of “viability” regardless of gestational age.

Had the issue been about forced vaccinations, which could quite likely make it to the Supreme Court, it’s a good bet that those same attorneys would argue passionately in the reverse.

To deny the politics of this before the fact, Justice Sonya Sotomeyor asked in all earnestness, “Will this institution survive the stench that this creates in the public perception — that the Constitution and its reading are just political acts?”

The more they vociferously deny it, the more clearly and overt their politics has become. Leftists are pro-choice about one thing and one thing only: abortion.

While they regularly and rather bizarrely call it “health care” they deny health care freedom and body autonomy to everyone else, and women too. From abortion to euthanasia, their rare exceptions always err on the side of death for the innocent and preservation of life for the guilty.

Imagine if conservatives advocated for the isolation, persecution and firing of women for having an abortion. Primal screams would be heard from every corner of their “woke” influence. Despite their relentless demagoguery on the issue, no reasonable person has any fear of this.

Yet, this is exactly the kind of persecution and grievous losses that are happening right now to those who want only to exercise their choice over their own bodies and say no to an experimental and potentially deadly injection (after injection, after injection.)

The subject of forced vaccinations came up briefly in the December 1 hearing with an ominous quote from Justice Amy Coney Barrett, “It seems to me that it focuses the burden much more narrowly. There is, without question, an infringement on bodily autonomy, you know, which we have in other contexts, like vaccines. However, it doesn’t seem to me to follow that pregnancy and then parenthood are all part of the same burden.”

I have precious little faith that even the Trump-appointed judges will decide fairly on forced vaccinations but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

We continue to live in an age where those in power have the temerity (chutzpah) to use the language of liberty to trample on our God-given rights–every one of them.

A decision in this case is not expected until late summer of 2022.
